Trying Out a Brand New Metal Detector for the First Time, see what we found! #metaldetecting

"It is in the compelling zest of high adventure and of victory, and in creative action, that man finds supreme joys."    Antoine de Saint-Exupery

My sweet Kathleen has been asking for a metal detector for awhile. She has a very adventurous spirit and enjoys trying new things with lots of enthusiasm. :-) We encourage her every step of the way! Recently she used her money she had saved to order one and we tried it out this past weekend.
Just look at that smile!!!

After doing the test runs to make sure it worked properly we set out in our own yard to see what we could find. Our home was built in 1968 and has almost 6 acres so we started out in a small area first. We will explore more areas on another day.

She was not disappointed! We started finding some things right away!

Perhaps the part to an old wind up watch??

Here was near our driveway and as Jerry started to dig we think it was a metal base that may have once supported a basketball net (which we'd love to put another one up soon ;)

She was like dad I can dig those holes myself, lol... and boy she tried her best... did well too!

She had no problem getting her hands dirty to search through the soil!

                                                                   A bolt of some kind....

Here's a photo of Hayley and Kathleen's hands working together to find the next item :-)

I just love how she chose her hiking boots and a back pack to carry her finds in. She thought of everything! ;-)

This was a pretty cool find, Jerry said it's a spring tooth harrow tine off an old plow. :-)

                                                           Also found a bullet shell....

                                                                A hinge of some sort.

A brake shoe for a vehicle....

Not sure what this is exactly....

                                                                        Steel plates...

                                                                      Another bolt....

This area was a burn pile from the other owners. Here was mostly staples that she found.

                                                               Part of a shovel.........

Wire a an old 7UP soda cap :-)

                                                             Water spicket knob.....

Also found a wire clothes hanger, here's all the finds in one pile :-)

It was a lot of fun trying it out and seeing how excited she was to find out what it had detected. I love her enthusiasm so much, I think she will carry it through with her the rest of her life. Leading her on a path of discovery and wonderful experiences. She's already been talking about doing it again after school today, lol.

                                                                                Blessings,
                                                                                      Jill

What a fun way to get some fresh air! Looks like she found some interesting 'treasures'. I've been off for a while and see you have settled in your new home - what a beautiful property! Your little treasure hunter has plenty of room to search!

You should try and clean the water knob. Then paint it and hang in her room. She could use it as a coat rack or a bag hook, but either way, it would be a great memory of her treasure hunt!!!!

I want a medal detector so bad. lol

Wow - what a pile of treasures she found!! It makes you think about how much stuff like that is around like that...and you wouldn't otherwise know. My Annie would completely get obsessed with something like this! Lol

I absolutely love her smile, joy, and enthusiasm. That water knob is great. Keep it.

As a surprise, Santa brought a metal detector to my son one year. I want one for myself now!

Could she save all the metal and recycle it?

That is so sad about that little abandoned house, Jill. I hope someone takes care of it--or sells it to you cheaply. It is sad they destroyed that tree like that.
Looks like your girlie found some very cool things. Love the rock/moss combo.
Have a wonderful weekend- xo Diana
