"Be like the bird who, pausing in her flight awhile on boughs too slight, feels them give way beneath her, and yet sings, knowing she hath wings" Victor Hugo
It's no secret our family loves nature and welcoming the wildlife into our yard. the other weekend Jerry and I wanted to get the bird houses up and ready for the approach of Spring. We had found the houses at a yard sale last summer when we first moved to the area and knew they would be perfect. We bought the poles at Lowes and set out to dig the holes to put in 8 bird houses total around the yard. First stop was to add one near our pond.
We then moved into our backyard and Jerry began preparing the hole for the next one. Kathleen came running over after just filling up the bird feeders and said she wanted to help. Also gave her daddy the thumbs up for all his hard work digging the holes. ;-)
She then ran off to gather the next pole to put into place. She's an amazing helper!!
Teach children every day and they will benefit in life by all they have learned. We use every day as an opportunity to teach and guide our girls and get them ready for the world and to be self sufficient.
There is a great sense of accomplishment when you learn to do things on your own. Independence is a good thing, as is team work! ;-)
Yes our girls know how to use a screw gun as well. Handy for all kinds of projects around the house and yard. :-)
This one is at the side of our house just off the sunroom. I love sitting in there and watching them on the feeders.
Had to put one out front as well! We have several feeders out there.
This one we placed at the little flower/ tree area at the beginning of our driveway. :-)
Another on the side yard to overlook our pond.
We were racing against the sun setting but managed to get them all done and ready to go for Spring!!
We've already noticed the birds checking them out, can't wait to see them preparing their nests and new baby birds born.
"The human bird shall take his first flight, filling the world with amazement, all writings with his fame, and bringing eternal glory to the nest whence he sprang" Leonardo da Vinci
"To find the universal elements enough; to find the air and the water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter... to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a bird's nest or a wildflower in spring - these are some of the rewards of the simple life" John Burroughs
A couple of quick pictures of our birds enjoying the bird feeders just a few weeks ago in the snow we had :-) Since then we've already had a few 70 degree days!
This little guy wasn't cooperating and wouldn't turn around for me, lol.
